Wilma

So I went to bed last night and last I heard, Hurricane Wilma had just achieved hurricane status.

I woke up this morning and she was a monster that had become the strongest storm in the recorded history of the Atlantic basin, with a low pressure of 881 - 884mb, surpassing Hurricane Gilbert's record of 888mb. The forecasters are surprised by the eye of the storm, which was only 2-4 nautical miles in diameter - thought to be impossible for a storm of this size.

The current forecast is for Wilma to go between Yucatan and Cuba, around the end of Cuba, and straight for the Florida Keys. Fortunately, though, once the storm passes Yucatan, the water temperatures decrease considerably (thanks to all the previous big hurricanes that have gone by), so the storm should weaken. However, if I were living in Florida, I would start looking at my evacuation plan.
