The flu is coming....

or so one of the guys at work is saying. True, the avian flu could pose the greatest pandemic since 1918, and will probably account for more than its fair share of deaths. However, as in all times of disease, those who suffer most will likely be those among us with lowered immunity - such as the elderly and young children. It will probably be a difficult period, but I don't think it will quite live up to the hype as is expected. Back at the time of the war, living conditions weren't quite what they are today... this will probably hit hard in developing areas...

Dazed and Confused

I am really not sure what to think today. I am not sure what just happened, and I am not sure what is going to happen next. And I don't have the words to describe how I am feeling, so I'm not even going to bother to try.

That skunk sure is getting fat.

You'd think winter was coming or something. Luckily for me when he saw me he walked the other way or else I might be singing a different tune and swinging a skunk around my head. Apparently he lives with his wife and 2.5 kids (rounded up to 3) under the landlord's patio next door. It is an accident waiting to happen. I swear, if I EVER get stanked by those skunks, there's gonna be hell to pay.

Zabba

The sun is shining today (sorta) as I sit here typing with a bladder that is 3/4 full. My head is full of sand (saturated) and the skin on my hands is dry, a sure sign of winter. Good thing I've got a bottle of lube here to keep them moist and such. And the world goes in and out of focus as my mind wanders to other things, such as what the hell I'm going to write next. Sometimes a premeditated blog is a good thing, because I don't really have to have a plan. But today, I need a plan. Maybe I should ask Stan. 'Cause he's the man. The man with the plan. That figure of the 16th avenue monitoring network on my cubicle wall looks like a bullseye. Or maybe a kidney shaped birthmark. Or a big honkin goiter, who knows. Today is Thursday, which is good, because it is not Monday. Oh, and it is Tab's birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAB!!!! The weekend is approaching and I find that I don't care. Because I still have to work TWO FRIGGIN DAYS FIRST. I'm sure I'll start caring sometime tomorrow morning when I can smell it. As long as I don't have to smell the stank of old B.O. in my rental car....

Wilma

So I went to bed last night and last I heard, Hurricane Wilma had just achieved hurricane status.

I woke up this morning and she was a monster that had become the strongest storm in the recorded history of the Atlantic basin, with a low pressure of 881 - 884mb, surpassing Hurricane Gilbert's record of 888mb. The forecasters are surprised by the eye of the storm, which was only 2-4 nautical miles in diameter - thought to be impossible for a storm of this size.

The current forecast is for Wilma to go between Yucatan and Cuba, around the end of Cuba, and straight for the Florida Keys. Fortunately, though, once the storm passes Yucatan, the water temperatures decrease considerably (thanks to all the previous big hurricanes that have gone by), so the storm should weaken. However, if I were living in Florida, I would start looking at my evacuation plan.

Thunk

Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.

That's the sound of me beating my head against my desk after being bored out of my mind this morning.

I got to sit and listen instead of participating, and what I heard had little to do with me. There were juicy tidbits here and there, but for the most part was very, very painful.

And another thing... there goes my morning. 3.5 hours lost to meetings. Oh well.

I could have sworn

that I posted something since the 11th. Oh well, I guess not.

I don't really have much to say today. My head feels like it is full of sand. I have been a bit of a bum. :)

But now I will sit down and listen to the Leafs game on the radio and hang out at tmlfans.ca

So Tired

Tuesday morning of a long weekend, and for the second weekend in a row, I got no sleep. It must be the change of getting up late all weekend and then trying to get up at 5am. I decided to get up at 4 and drive to Toronto and try to sleep for a few hours, but to no avail. I may have gotten about 2 hours, tops. I hate that. I think I need to get out of bed on weekends instead of sleeping in until noon.

It could be a long season...

After 7 minutes of the first game of the season, BOOM, captain Mats Sundin is gone for 4-8 weeks with a busted face - more specifically, a broken orbital bone below his left eye. Of all the injury questions that were raised for this season, nobody saw this one coming. Hopefully the other guys can pick up the slack.

No offense to Tie Domi, but he really needs to step up and contribute to show that he was worth that contract. I know it has only been one game, but I wanna see that drive, hustle and toughness that made Domi so effective the last time playoffs were held.

Leafs looked "ok" in game 1, a 3-2 shootout loss to the "evil" Sens, who didn't look anything like previous years. Even Alfie looked different, in that he came through in the clutch - though if that continues into the playoffs.... we will see.

Game on!

So tonight, after a long year off, the NHL is back in action. It has been a long wait, but fans seem to be accepting the league back with open arms.

I for one, am excited.

The Leafs take on the hated (and probably slightly evil) Ottawa Senators on a 15-game opening night. The league has undergone many new changes from the salary cap to new rules which should provide any number of powerplays every game.

Once again, every "expert" in sight is picking the Leafs to miss the playoffs - this is getting to be a tired, yearly event. I believe most experts have said the same thing every season since Belfour arrived. They have gotten better every year.

This year will be different though. The rule changes look to make it a whole new game. Hopefully the Leafs adapt.
