Home (sweet?) home

We arrived safely back from the sunny south last night at 650pm and drove off into the relative cold of the Canadian December.

It seemed kind of surreal having to come back, since the 10 days in Barbados seemed a blissful lifetime. I could actually see myself living there. Really.

Of course, that could have been because I really didn't do much but sit around. Making a living might be another matter. ;)

And finally, somehow, I managed not to get much of a tan. It certainly wasn't for lack of being in the sun. Must be my sunblock or something. (Note that I'm not much the type for lying out in the sun for 8 hours, so that could be partly why too).

I'm happy to be home, though, and looking forward to seeing my family and friends.

Ciao Barbados. I will see you again soon. :)

Merry Christmas

I got up at 330 am this morning - no lie - to attend Christmas mass.

This is the first time in my 33 years that I have attended mass on Christmas Day. Surprisingly, I stayed awake through the entire service, which surprised me because I was (and still am) very tired. Perhaps it was the coffee that kept me going. I am not sure.

Now it is breakfast, followed by gifts, and thankfully, more sleep before Christmas Lunch.

Tomorrow is our flight back to Toronto.

Merry Christmas everybody.

A word to the wise....

Watch what you eat at all you can eat buffets, even in B'dos.

'Nuff said.

East Coast

We took a drive down to the east coast of B'dos for lunch today, stopping at the Atlantis restaurant for lunch. It started raining just as we arrived, but we still managed to stay dry (this was the theme of the day). We ate over the ocean with the waves crashing ashore - the waves on the east coast are much higher than the west because the island is no longer in the way of prevailing winds.

We drove around the southeast part of the island afterwards, checking out high cliffs and deep blue seas. We managed to evade the rain on two more occasions, watching it advance on the island as a curtain of water and then soaking everything foolish enough to be out in the open.

Sitting around chatting ended this day of travelling around the island and was much more entertaining than the last time when we took a jeep tour - more personal and relaxed.

Tomorrow, the beach again. ;)

A well needed vacation

So this is day five of the ten day vacation to the sunny isle of Barbados and I am as relaxed as can be. Work has been shoved aside and forgotten. The most stressful thing on my mind is trying to decide how many bottles of rum to bring back for my family and friends, and which beach to go to today.

I really really needed this - to get completely away from everything in my life that was causing me stress (i.e. work :P) and just veg out.

Today we have decided on a tour of the Mount Gay rum factory and a beach on the south coast of the island. So far we have sampled mainly from the west coast.

More later.

Derk + Shea

So I'm in a lovey dovey mood today. :)

There are some days that I'm so happy to be in a relationship - today is one of those days. It's especially nice since we are ***CENSORED*** Friday morning. As long as this snowstorm that's coming in tomorrow doesn't ***CENSORED***, I will be a happy man come Friday afternoon.

***CENSORED***, here we come!!!

Woot woot woot!

Note: This post has been censored, just in case.

I need a vacation

I have been at this for nearly a year and a half without pause (except for weekends and statutory holidays) and I really need some time off. I am starting to feel burnt out, and if not for the people here (putting up with all the self-chatter and bad jokes), I probably would have lost it long ago. In fact, I almost lost it this morning. :O

Only a few more days...

Blog, blog, blog

I haven't blogged that much lately, since work and life have kept me pretty busy.

Grandma M.'s service was very nice - she passed peacefully from what I have been told.

I spent yesterday working on a report.

I will spend most of this week working on 3 more.

Whoopee.

Rest in Peace Grandma

I received some bad news yesterday. My grandma (mother's side) passed away Tuesday from cancer. She was 87.

The funeral is scheduled for Friday.

Rest in Peace grandma.
