Unlucky 7

Looks like my Leafs are taking it on the chin right now. Another miserable outcome, 8-4 to Buffalo last night, in a game where they didn't play as badly as the score indicated. A couple of unlucky bounces off players, a blown call by the refs and an empty net goal pretty much made the difference in this one.

I was especially unhappy about the call early in the 3rd with the game 5-4 Buffalo, Sabres with a 2-man advantage. A melee ensues in front of the net, in which Buffalo took a penalty to offer the Leafs some hope. The point man skated in front and took part, which AUTOMATICALLY means that the faceoff comes outside the blue line. This is an iron clad rule, and it is hard to see how it can be missed. But it was. Seconds later, Buffalo wins the faceoff and scores what proved to be a backbreaking goal and went on to win. It was an artificial turning point in an otherwise exciting game.

VOTE!!!!

Today is another federal election.

Even though apathy tends to affect a good portion of the populace these days, what with the apparent poor choices available, I believe everyone should exercise their democratic right to vote.

I won't get into anything political here, or I will be here all day.

Canadians! Get out there and VOTE!!!!

Nalgene Crisis Averted

So I thought I had lost my Nalgene bottle the other day. I swore that I had it at work, but it was nowhere to be seen.

This morning I found it with my gym clothes. Who knew.

Hopefully today goes well. I am feeling a little down about this whole Credit Valley thing. I just wish things would get done so that I can work on some other things.

It's a new post!!!

So I have been lax in posting in the last little while. Shea's internet browsers were on the fritz (ok, so I played games all weekend, sue me), wah wah wah.

Freezing rain today - saw an accident on the way home. Looks like someone tried to turn left in front of another car and WHAMMO. Thanks for coming out. I wonder why some people drive like idiots in bad weather.

Leafs are in trouble, 3 points up on 9th place with 4 straight road games. I'd say they need at least 5 points to keep up their end of the bargain. Otherwise, they may end up on the outside looking in. :(

And I know I've been saying this a lot, but the drilling should start this week. *knocks wood*

Warm in January

I know I already posted this morning, but what the hey - IT IS 8 DEGREES OUTSIDE!!! IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY!!!!

I keep wondering when winter is going to actually slam into us.

I am expecting a record snowfall this year - probably from a single storm. That'll keep us honest.

And after that crazy hurricane season, it is the least I can expect.

Too good to be true

Well, I guess it was too good to be true.

I got lots of sleep, got up in a relaxed manner, caught the same bus as I did yesterday, started reading, but fell asleep. Oh well. At least these buses tell you when your stop is coming up... "Next stop: Allstate Parkway!!!"

Also, they have found the heating dial in here again. I figure wearing my summer shirts again is a good way to keep comfortable - along with this cute green fan that Dan and linda got me years ago. ;)

A nice change of pace....

Wow.

As I mentioned yesterday, VIVA Pink is up and running, connecting my home station (Finch) to work. The trip last night was speedy - I was home by 6! And this morning... well, let me tell you how much nicer it is to not have to rush out the door to catch the 645am bus so I don't have to get packed on a bus like a sardine.

I got up at 630 (a far cry from the 545 that I used to do when I don't have a car) and was able to easily make the 730 VIVA Pink. And the bus was only HALF FULL!!!! :O No sitting beside sleepy people or guys with too much cologne. And since it wasn't too early, I actually read my book without falling asleep!!!

Now if I can just keep getting to bed at a decent hour, things should improve markedly.

Viva Pink

So finally after a whole bunch of time taking these slow-ass buses from work to home, they have come up with something a little faster. A direct connection with about half the required stops means a swift trip home, WITHOUT the hassle of switching buses.

And the BEST part is I don't need to get up at 545am any more to catch an early bus so I don't have to fight for good seats with the rest of the hoi-polloi. These things are HUGE!!! And every ten minutes at rush hour has me drooling.

The only drawback is that the bus tickets got bigger - AGAIN!!! (Yes, this is the second time in four months!!!) That and ten tickets went up a dolla.

I guess I can live with that. Until I get a car. ;)

Canada's Juniors Bring Home Gold!!!

When asked earlier in the day whether or not they would beat Canada in the gold medal game, future NHL star Evgeny Malkin responded, "Easily".

Well, I guess things weren't so easy after all.

After being horribly outshot over the first half of the first period, Canada took control and stomped Malkin and the Russians into the ice to the tune of 5-0. Justin Pogge, Canada's goalie (and Leaf draft pick) was solid in the win.

So that's two in a row, and what, 4 out of 5?

Congratulations!

Not the way I wanted to start back to work...

I don't know why, but I just could not fall asleep last night. I finally drifted off between 3 and 4, and I awoke just after 630. I am so tired right now - funny, I am ending my vacation with the same amount of sleep that I started it with. Unfortunately, there is no airplane on which I can try to catch a few hours sleep. :)

I suppose a couple cups of coffee ought to do it.

Happy New Year.
