A week???

since my last blog?? Unacceptable!!!

This past week was my first pump test supervision. It started Tuesday morning (step test) and ran until Saturday morning, after which we measured recovery.

So in summary, I worked 12 hour days from Tuesday to Friday, worked an 8 hour day Saturday (followed by dinner in London with my dad), and worked from 730 until now (approx. 1pm) on Sunday. WTF.

The good news is that now that the major field work is complete, I can move on to other stuff again... like getting home before sunset.

The extra good news is that there likely won't be another major pumping test. :)

Resentment

I am feeling a lot of anger and resentment towards my job right now. I am in the office on a long weekend trying to put together a presentation that I have to give this week even though I have been working long hours in the field for much of the last three weeks. And when I give my part of this talk, I am expected to come in out of the field, give my talk, and head back out. It is kind of annoying.

And I am currently confused about this presentation and did I mention angry?

Okay, so enough venting. Time for some solutions.

Holding Pattern

I don't know what comes after this.

This part of my life may be coming to an end, I fear.

The emotional seas have been rough, but they are more turbulent now than ever.

Why do I shake like a small child awaiting punishment?

I don't know what to do.

Except to take some time to figure things out.

Long Weekend!!!

It is finally here, the May 2-4 weekend, the first long weekend of "summer" (such as it is).

A weekend to relax after several weeks of furious drilling and drilling mishaps at work, as well as practice pump tests, plenty of phone calls and waaay too many miles.

But now that gets put behind me and I look forward to a weekend of relaxation in the sun.

Nothing profound today. Just relief that I get some time off.

Oh, and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to Dan and linda! Maybe we can hit the tulip festival next year (where it all began...)

The Number 3

That was the theme for the baby "shower" I went to last night (more of a dinner with gifts). Books about three little this and three little that, and other 3 themed gifts abounded.

Never having been to a baby shower, I had no idea what to buy. So I figured I would let them figure it out themselves. I got them 3 gift certificates for various baby places. Not too original, mind you, until you consider the amount of each was $33.33. A bit of overkill, but what can you do?

The best part was the visit.

Congrats Mark and Cristina on number 3!!!

More downtime

I needed this. Sitting around doing nothing that important this weekend. Some idle errands, like going to the market, sitting around the coffee shop chatting, cutting vegetables up for dinner. It is nice to be able to relax and do these things at the non-breakneck pace usually reserved for the week when work takes up 90% of the time.

What I really would like to do more is cook. I picked up a nice recipe book recently called "red hot" which, predictably, is full of spicy recipes, and have another given as a gift full of chinese cuisine. The problem with a hectic schedule is that cooking is often left out or simplified - can you say rice cooker and frozen fish fillets? Not those fish sticks, either....

I miss some of the more thorough meals I used to cook.

Maybe I need to have a dinner party some weekend. Kinda hard with two roomies, but we will see what I can put together.

OMG

It has been awhile since I have blogged. Bummer.

I have been in the field all week doing this drilling job and installing wells. It has been a difficult week, with all kinds of problems cropping up - the driller says that there is a different version of Murphy's Law for this kind of work - and boy has he been right.

The weather has been beautiful - sunny and warm, mostly. A little chilly today, but meh. What can you do. I am a nice shade of red on my exposed skin. Silly sunblock doesn't work the way it should.

Hopefully this screen will be developed tomorrow and we will be able to move on and do a pumping test. Time will tell. Stay tuned.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there, including my own!!!

It is going to be a beautiful day here with sunshine and some warm temperatures (finally!).

It should be a great day to be outdoors.

Enjoy your day!!!

The problem with mornings is...

that nothing has really happened yet. I mean, you get the occasional day where the neighbour runs out of his driveway and flings pieces of chicken bones at you, or the guy on the bus with too much aftershave, or the high school girl wearing the miniskirt hitched up her a$$ in the middle of winter, but for the most part, it is wake up, get ready for work, go to work (sleep during transit optional), get to work, stumble to the coffee machine (I knew I forgot something), stumble back to my desk, figure out what the hell it is I'm going to do today and realize that I have no idea where to get scrap barrels to make seepage meters and that I should really learn to use periods instead of commas because then you get real run-on sentences which nobody likes, but who cares, since this is my blog and I can do what I please. Nyah. What was I talking about?

Another Monday of no field work....

I really don't know when this project is going to get going, and I must say that this lack of work is getting rather frustrating. I feel my blood pressure rising every minute, I swear.

So I have no idea when we will get started. Everybody on the team knows now, and they probably aren't too happy. And neither am I.

On the bright side, I am in the office today, and can get some of my other work done....

May Day!!!

It may be May 1, but the only May day I remember is the call from Rick Jeanneret...

MAY DAY!!! MAY DAY!!! MAY DAY!!!!!

as the Sabres beat Boston in overtime to move past the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in ten years.

I got chills listening to it....

You can find it at...
